Bumblefumblie - goes ‘bump’ in the night
The next time you hear something go bump in the night, don’t worry – it’s just the Bumblefumblie. For some unfortunate reason, this nocturnal creature has terrible night vision. The Bumblefumblie likes to sleep behind the wallpaper during the daytime and hunt for food (bread crumbs, popcorn dropped behind the sofa etc) during the night. But barely seeing a thing in the darkness, it stumbles around bumping into the furniture and walking into the walls, seriously hurting itself.
This unsafe behaviour, combined with the difficulty of finding a mate (those who have witnessed it’s hopeless mating ritual have described it in terms of ‘like a needle in a haystack trying to find another needle in another haystack‘ and ‘more bewildered than blindfolded drunks‘), has put the Bumblefumblie down the path of endangerment and extinction. It would no doubt be on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species, if they only knew it existed. If you want to help the Bumblefumblie – leave a night light on during the dark hours so it can find food, avoid injuries and perhaps find someone to love.
