Tooth Gnomes - causing cavities and other dental problems
The Tooth Gnomes are a bunch of extremly tiny, but very ambitious miners. They find the human mouth an amazing resource, full of valuable and wonderful things. While we are sleeping the gnomes use hammers, drills and picks to extract stuck food particles, plaque and other stuff they can use or trade with. This could be a good thing for our dental hygiene. Unfortunately, the Tooth Gnomes often become too greedy, dig too deep and and cause cavities. They also have a tendency to remove fillings and sell them for a substantial profit on the gnome black market.
The gnomes cause other problems as well. The by-products from their mining activities form slag heaps surrounding the tooth, later hardening to tartar. They also use oil lamps, fueled with stale kerosene, earwax and runny gorgonzola cheese. The foul smell the burning oil leaves behind is often mistaken for bad morning breath.
The Tooth Gnomes are not just roughnecked industrial workers trying to make ends meet. They consider the raspberry seeds that tend to get stuck between our teeth as the most beautiful thing in the world, turning them into exquisite jewelry that they give to their loved ones on St. Periodontitis Eve (a romantic Tooth Gnome-holiday similar to our Valentine’s Day).
